Taylor Hawkins promotes new album with ... virtual 8-track player?!
With stops scheduled in Santa Barbara, Las Vegas, Boston, Toronto, Baltimore, New York and Philadelphia, the Red Light Fever tour will feature Hawkins on vocals and a variety of instruments, joined by veteran Coattail Riders Chris Chaney (bass), Gannin Arnold (guitar), Nate Wood (guitar), as well as Foo Fighters touring percussionist Drew Hester. The Coattail Riders coterie will unveil the first ever live interpretations of the brand new Red Light Fever material as well as tracks from the band's eponymous 2006 debut album.
The genesis of Red Light Fever can be traced back to an early 2009 break from the Foo Fighters' grueling touring schedule that freed up time for Hawkins to begin demoing tracks for a second Coattail Riders record. However, Hawkins' providing drums and vocals on all tracks among other instruments soon became the only thing Red Light Fever would have in common with its homespun predecessor. The record snowballed into full on sessions at the Foo Fighters' state of the art 606 studio complex, with Hawkins was joined by Chaney, Arnold, Wood, and a stellar supporting cast including Elliot Easton of the Cars, Brian May and Roger Taylor of Queen, and last but by no means least, Hawkins' bandmate Dave Grohl.
Red Light Fever could be considered a labor of love - if the sheer joy exuded in every note, influence and nuance of every song didn't make the entire affair seem so effortless. Hawkins' increasingly accomplished vocals and world renowned drumming skills recall and pay tribute to Hawkins' vast spectrum of classic rock heroes - from the vintage 70s glam stomp of "Way Down," the hard rock rave up "Not Bad Luck," a nod to Beatlesque balladry in the form of "Hell To Pay," and many more. Virtually every track evokes memories of the respective heydays of the Chinn-Chapman hit factory, The Move, Sweet, and even a little 10cc for good measure - all imbued with Hawkins' unmistakable musical personality.

Cloud Cult preps double-disc reissue w/ bonus tracks!
Cloud Cult Announce the December 8th Release of a Double-Disc Reissue – They Live on the Sun (2003) and Aurora Borealis (2004) – Remixed, Remastered and with Bonus Tracks!
New York, NY – On December 8th, 2009 Cloud Cult will release a double-disc reissue of They Live on the Sun (2003) and Aurora Borealis (2004) – two of their earliest albums. These two home recorded releases have been re-envisioned, remixed and remastered for the first time by Cloud Cult's Craig Minowa and this special double-disc release will contain previously unreleased bonus tracks. The albums, which are now out of print and could only be purchased at live gigs and select Independent record stores, will be available for the first time nationwide and fans can take advantage of a presale on the band’s web site in late November – www.cloudcult.com.
Cloud Cult’s lead singer/songwriter Craig Minowa created these albums during 18 months of seclusion at his Northern Minnesota organic farm after his two-year-old son passed away unexpectedly in 2002. Originally released on the band’s own Earthology Records, they were mainly available on a local level due to a shoe-string credit card budget. Despite the limited distribution, They Live on the Sun landed on Pitchfork’s 2004 Year-End “Found Sound column” and was put into rotation at KEXP, while Aurora Borealis climbed to the Top 5 on KEXP. In addition, both albums found fans at college radio across the US and The Live on the Sun even surpassed major label releases on many stations including Radiohead's Hail to the Thief.
2004 Pitchfork Year-End “Found Sound”
“They Live on the Sun is a sweeping indie epic.”
Pitchfork--Marc Hogan
“Like Wilco's Yankee Hotel Foxtrot, Aurora Borealis is the rare album that has the musical merit to match its great making-of story. Confident, mature, honest, inventive, eclectic, and unremittingly catchy: Minowa's fourth release deserves all the adjectives befitting a classic album.” – PopMatters
All of the attention these early albums received helped this Minneapolis band break out onto the national scene and it only seems fitting that they reissue these releases as the band is gearing up to hit the road in Spring of 2010 after taking their longest break from touring in 6 years. A self -imposed hiatus, the break gave Craig and his wife Connie time to adjust to being parents again as they welcomed a new addition to their family this October.
Cloud Cult has gone on to sell more than 30,000 copies of its follow-up releases, despite turning down major label offers along the way. In addition, they’ve just ended a very busy year where they played Coachella for the first time, made their late night TV debut on Last Call with Carson Daly and co-headlined a nationwide tour with Margot and The Nuclear So and So’s. Following the reissue this Winter and the Spring 2010 tour, the band is gearing up for a new album release in the Fall of 2010 – so please stay tuned for more news in the near future.

Storyhill finally gets around to releasing Deerwood, Minn., festival details
Focused on original singer/song writers, the festival’s lineup includes 10 artists. Other artists showcased during the festival include: Casey & Joe, Jake Armerding, Mother Banjo, Ben Kyle an d Luke Jacobs of Romantica, Peter Larson, Joanna Jahn Band, and Brenda Weiler.
Cunningham and Hermanson, who originally are from Bozeman, Mont., based Storyhill Fest Midwest on their successful festival held in Montana for the past four years. Designed to be an intimate, interactive event for their fans, Storyhill Fest Midwest is a unique music and camping experience with multiple offerings and activities for all ages and interests, including guided kayak trips, nature hikes and a cribbage tournament.
“When thinking of expanding our Storyhill Fest to other locations, Minnesota was the natural fit,” said Hermanson. “We grew up in Montana, but Minnesota has been a second home to us and has helped inspire our music.”
The Presbyterian Clearwater Forest Camp is located in the Brainerd Lakes area, which is one of Minnesota’s most popular and beautiful recreational areas. In addition to the site’s conveniences that make for an easy camping experience, like multiple camping options and permanent bathrooms, it is home to an astonishing variety of plant and wildlife species, including 200-year-old pine trees, Lady Slippers, bald eagles and more. Most of Clearwater Forest’s 1,016 acres of forest and 3.5 miles of lakeshore are pristine and undeveloped.
“The original festival, held in Montana, was created as an event to bring people together in a beautiful setting to relax and enjoy great music together,” said Cunningham.
“We are excited to bring that experience to the Midwest and have Minnesota’s north woods as our back drop for Storyhill Fest Midwest.”
This summer, festival-goers will be treated to sneak peeks of Storyhill’s newest songs. They currently are working with Grammy Award-winning producer Dan Wilson on a new album slated to be released in 2010.
Storyhill Fest tickets are available online at www.storyhill.com/fest2. Full festival camping passes include camping/lodging, full camp access, all performances and activities. Group and individual day passes also are available.

Crazy Beck news!
EXTENSIVE OVERHAUL TO FEATURE DEBUT OF RECORD CLUB
Beck & Friends Form Music Club To Re-Record Entire Albums In One-Day Sessions and Post a Track a Week
Beck.com will be undergoing an extensive overhaul in the next month. It will feature several new sections, including Record Club, a regular meeting of various musicians to record an entire album in one day. Due to the time constraints involved in recording a record in a day, an album will be chosen to be covered and used as a framework for the proceedings. Nothing will be rehearsed or arranged ahead of time. A track from these sessions will be uploaded once a week on Beck.com, as well as through the web sites of those involved in the project.
Record Club will be an ongoing experiment visitors to the site will be able to follow from week to week.
The first album attempted--one of the few everyone could agree on--will be The Velvet Underground & Nico.
Musicians involved in upcoming Record Clubs include Devendra Banhart, MGMT, Jamie Lidell and Nigel Godrich.

A&E FYI: Best Friends Forever to headline Geek Prom 2009
Budgeteer News
Published Wednesday, March 11, 2009
It was recently announced that Twin Cities indie pop sensations Best Friends Forever will headline this year's Geek Prom, to be held April 18 at Great Lakes Aquarium. The trio made its Duluth debut back in December of '06, when they headlined Diorama-rama 2 at the old Emerson Gym.
“This is historical,” BFF’s guitarist and co-vocalist Briana Smith joked back then.

“On our tour this past summer we played at a rollerskating rink in Richmond, Va., and we were set up and played in the snack bar," the Crosby, Minn., native said. "It was this big punk festival, and we are so not punks. There were hundreds of punks. They were all drinking beer and spilling beer all over the rollerskating rink, and people were slipping on it.
“We weren’t sure how we would go over, but people liked it.”
BFF's first full-length for Plan-It-X Records, "Romance Conflict Adventure" (featuring the Star Tribune- and Minnesota Public Radio-approved "Eisenhower is the Father"), was released in 2007, and the group's debut EP for Say & Stay Said was recently reissued with hard-to-find vinyl tracks.

Eerie ... is Samuel L. Jackson next?
With all due respect to the recently deceased -- Isaac "Shaft" and/or "Chef" Hayes and Bernie Mac -- this is either totally creepy or 100 percent an inexcusable hoax. Either way....Yesterday, it was Bernie Mac. Today it was Isaac Hayes. Could Samuel Jackson be next?
Daryl Toor, president of Attention!, an Atlanta-based publicity firm, a former music reviewer and record company executive notes:
"This photograph, taken from Isaac Hayes' official site at www.isaachayes.com/myframes.html is as eerie as the time I read a newspaper obituary on its own obituary writer…."

Republicans use Ciresi's Budgeteer quote against Franken
From MinnesotaDemocratsExposed.com:
Team Franken can’t run an ad praising Franken’s accomplishment on behalf of Minnesota because he doesn’t have any accomplishments. Even one of Franken’s rivals for the DFL endorsement, Mike Ciresi, said Franken hasn’t “delivered for Minnesota”:
“Let me ask you, what has Al Franken delivered for Minnesotans? The answer is self-evident: He hasn’t. … I have got things done for Minnesotans my entire career, and Al hasn’t.” (Matthew R. Perrine and Matt Suoja, “Minneapolis Lawyer Mike Ciresi Discusses His Bid For U.S. Senate,” Budgeteer News, October 12, 2007)
And, after a quick Google search, it looks like at least one other Republican-backing Web site has used that same quote from Ciresi (who has since dropped out of the race for Norm Coleman's U.S. Senate seat).See what all the fuss is about by reading the original article.
