New York, NY - Motion City Soundtrack are excited to present the first ever Popsickle festival in their hometown of Minneapolis, MN on December 18th.  Taking over Minneapolis' famed  First Avenue and spilling over into 7th Street Entry, the all ages festival will feature headliners Motion City Soundtrack along with Minus the Bear, Foxy Shazam, Gold Motel, A Great Big Pile of Leaves, Now Now Every Children, One for the Team, Gospel Gossip, Take Cover and The Chord and the Fawn with more to be announced.

We wanted to start a festival in the vein of what Lollapalooza was to me in the early '90's -- a bunch of bands that most likely would never have toured together, but were all doing something interesting and unique in that particular point in time. Our version of that will be much smaller of course, but the idea is the same.  We hope to make this an annual festival that takes place in Minnesota every winter and hopefully can continue to grow in both scope and girth. – Justin Pierre/MCS

Tickets go on sale Saturday, November 13th at noon at all Ticketmaster outlets and the First Avenue box office. The first 100 tickets purchased at the box office will be specially priced at just $12.50 (two ticket limit). All other tickets are $22.50 in advance.

Google gets sued over Buzz privacy issues, is forced to apologize (kind of)

I apologize for the non-music-related post, but I found this e-mail from Google HQ this morning to be quite interesting ... funny how it doesn't mention how Google violated our privacy, just that the company did:

Google rarely contacts Gmail users via email, but we are making an exception to let you know that we've reached a settlement in a lawsuit regarding Google Buzz (http://buzz.google.com), a service we launched within Gmail in February of this year.

Shortly after its launch, we heard from a number of people who were concerned about privacy. In addition, we were sued by a group of Buzz users and recently reached a settlement in this case.

The settlement acknowledges that we quickly changed the service to address users' concerns. In addition, Google has committed $8.5 million to an independent fund, most of which will support organizations promoting privacy education and policy on the web. We will also do more to educate people about privacy controls specific to Buzz. The more people know about privacy online, the better their online experience will be.

Just to be clear, this is not a settlement in which people who use Gmail can file to receive compensation. Everyone in the U.S. who uses Gmail is included in the settlement, unless you personally decide to opt out before December 6, 2010. The Court will consider final approval of the agreement on January 31, 2011. This email is a summary of the settlement, and more detailed information and instructions approved by the court, including instructions about how to opt out, object, or comment, are available at http://www.BuzzClassAction.com.

This mandatory announcement was sent to all Gmail users in the United States as part of a legal settlement and was authorized by the United States District Court for the Northern District of California.
